SIMON DEAN FROM WARRINGTON CAUGHT WITH OVER 50,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Warrington community, Simon Dean, a 59-year-old resident of Warrington, has been found to possess an astonishing collection of over 50,000 indecent images and videos depicting children.The investigation into Dean’s activities uncovered a decade-long pattern of viewing and storing vile material, which he claimed was simply a 'moment of madness' when confronted by authorities.
On the early morning of January 14 last year, a search warrant was executed at Dean’s residence on Hurst Mill Lane in Glazebury, Warrington.
The operation was carried out by the National Crime Agency (NCA), which had been investigating Dean’s online activities.
When officers informed him of the nature of the raid, Dean responded with a resigned admission, saying, “Ok I admit it, I’m going to have to come clean, aren’t I?” During the subsequent search, Dean directed officers to various electronic devices, including 13 computers, laptops, phones, and hard drives, which contained a significant amount of illegal material.
Prosecutor Rebecca Smith explained that three of these devices were found to contain indecent images of children, with additional searches conducted on two others.
Dean was taken into custody and later interviewed by detectives, during which he admitted to downloading and storing the images but denied any involvement in distributing them.
The authorities uncovered a staggering total of 51,532 images and videos, featuring children as young as five years old.
Among these, 3,188 images were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe forms of abuse.
The collection also included 4,240 images in Category B and a massive 46,888 in Category C.
His internet browsing history revealed concerning searches dating back to November 2012, indicating a long-standing pattern of illicit activity.
Further evidence was found in the form of Microsoft Word documents titled “The Compassionate Paedophile” and “Baby Sitting Kristen.” The latter document detailed activities involving a young child during a babysitting session, raising further alarm about Dean’s intentions and actions.
Additionally, investigators discovered that on one occasion in 2020, Dean received 22 separate emails containing indecent images within a span of just 15 minutes.
Dean faced multiple charges, including possession of indecent images, making indecent images, and possession of prohibited images.
These charges were formally admitted during an earlier hearing.
The case was scheduled for sentencing before Judge David Aubrey KC, but the hearing was adjourned until next month.
The delay was granted to allow the Probation Service to conduct further inquiries into Dean’s suitability for the Horizon sex offenders treatment programme, which aims to rehabilitate offenders and prevent future crimes.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and the disturbing extent of online abuse.
The community awaits the final sentencing, which will determine the severity of the punishment for Simon Dean’s heinous actions in Warrington.
