2008: WORDSLEY MAN JAILED FOR TEEN RAPE
Simon Clarke, a married man from Wordsley, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after admitting to raping a 17-year-old girl.
The offence occurred after Clarke was persuaded to send the girl affectionate text messages in an attempt to seek revenge on her boyfriend.
At Wolverhampton Crown Court on September 30, Clarke, aged 24 and of Brook Street, pleaded guilty to the charge of rape.
He was also ordered to remain on the sex offender register for life.
Clarke told police that “things got a bit out of hand” during the incident.
Judge Michael Dudley commented that Clarke had taken advantage of the girl but praised his decision to admit guilt, which helped avoid causing the victim further distress through recounting the incident.
Described as having acted out of character, Clarke appeared tearful and remorseful in court.
His wife and family were present in court to support him.
The prosecution, represented by Mr.
Evans, noted that Clarke knew the girl and had rekindled their friendship after moving back to the Stourbridge area from Devon, during which the rape occurred.
