HALIFAX MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND USE OF PARTNER AS HUMAN SHIELD
A MAN identified as Brodie Lee has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for a series of violent incidents. According to reports, Lee turned up at his partner's residence after consuming alcohol and drugs. During the confrontation, he waved a knife in her face but later apologized, and the situation calmed down. Prosecutor Adam Keenaghan stated that Lee, aged 34 and residing in Spring Edge, Halifax, then later took crack cocaine and attacked the woman by pulling her to the floor and hitting her with a vacuum cleaner tube, which shattered. The woman sustained a black eye and bruising. Weeks later, Lee was found holding a knife to his own throat on a Halifax pathway. His partner intervened to prevent him from being tasered by police, and he used her as a human shield until the knife was taken from him. Lee has a criminal record with 12 prior convictions for 28 offenses, including assault on an emergency worker and harassment. Lydia Pearce, in mitigation, noted that the woman suffered minor physical harm and that Lee was addressing his substance abuse issues through courses in prison. The court, Judge Ahmed Nadim, sentenced Lee to a total of 62 weeks, slightly over 14 months, during a hearing held via video link to Leeds Prison, where Lee was remanded after breaching his curfew.
