A man responsible for the sexual assault of a young woman with limited vulnerability has received a prison sentence.
Sheraz Malik, aged 28, met the woman in Sutton Lawn, Sutton-in-Ashfield, on the evening of Sunday, June 29, 2025.
The victim, who was 18 years old at the time, was introduced to Malik and a group of older men through a friend.
She was subsequently attacked after this introduction.
The case was heard at Birmingham Crown Court last year, where it was revealed that she was first raped by another male in the group and later taken to a remote location by Malik, where he raped her again.
Malik, a Pakistani national, was identified following the arrest of an initial suspect.
Police later tracked him to an address in Newcastle.
Malik was arrested on July 18, and during two interviews with police, he did not offer any comments, even when faced with DNA evidence linking him to the victim.
At trial, Malik claimed that the sexual encounters had been consensual.
However, the jury found his account unconvincing, and in January of the same year, he was convicted of two counts of rape, while a third count was dismissed.
Today, Thursday, June 11, Malik appeared in court once again and was sentenced to a total of 14 years comprising 10 years imprisonment and four years on extended licence.
