SHAWN FRAZER FROM WELSHPOOL CAUGHT WITH 10,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN NEWTOWN, POWYS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, 19-year-old Shawn Anthony Frazer, a resident of Welshpool, has been sentenced to four years in youth detention after being found in possession of an alarming quantity of child sexual abuse images on his mobile phone. The incident came to light when Frazer took his phone to a repair shop located in Newtown, Powys, where staff members discovered the illicit content during routine diagnostics.

Upon noticing the disturbing images, the shop staff promptly contacted law enforcement authorities. Police investigations revealed that the phone contained approximately 10,000 indecent images, some of the most severe and disturbing types of child abuse material. The images had been downloaded and shared using an application that Frazer employed to distribute the illicit content.

Further inquiries uncovered that Frazer was not only viewing these images but was also actively involved in sexual offenses against minors. It was established that he had engaged in sexual activities or assaulted four children, a revelation that added a deeply troubling dimension to the case. The authorities charged him with 20 counts of producing and distributing indecent images and 15 counts related to sexual assault, sexual activity with a child, and inciting a child to engage in sexual acts.

During the investigation, forensic analysis of Frazer’s phone revealed conversations with other men, including one individual based in America, in which they discussed the images in graphic detail. Prosecutor Simon Rogers highlighted that these discussions demonstrated a disturbing level of engagement with the material and a willingness to share and exchange such content.

In his police interview, Frazer claimed that he had attempted to delete the images from his device, but they reappeared, suggesting either technical issues or deliberate concealment. He expressed shock upon learning the extent of the content found on his phone, indicating that he was unaware of the full scope of the material stored on his device.

Defending Frazer, solicitor John Hedgecoe explained that the young man had been in care from a young age and had recognized the wrongfulness of his actions. Hedgecoe added that Frazer had been seeking counseling prior to his arrest, indicating some level of remorse and an attempt at rehabilitation.

Judge Rhys Rowlands delivered the sentence, emphasizing the severity of Frazer’s conduct. He described the defendant’s behavior as “worrying and very, very wrong indeed,” and sentenced him to four years in youth detention. Additionally, Frazer was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, and an indefinite sexual offences prevention order was imposed to restrict his future activities and prevent further harm.
