SHAUN SMITH SENTENCED IN HULL FOR ONLINE SEX OFFENDING AND DISTRIBUTION OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In June 2014, Shaun Smith, a 20-year-old from Greenwood Avenue in north Hull, posed as young girls online to engage in sexually explicit chats with other individuals. He created fake profiles under the names "Maria Charlton" and "Naomi Garlston," and used the email address "mariababeh" for his deception.
Smith was also found to have downloaded and distributed indecent images of children, including one of a four-year-old.
Hull Crown Court was informed that Smith’s parents were "shocked and disgusted" when they learned of his activities.
Authorities found a total of 642 indecent images and seven movies on his laptop, external hard drive, and iPhone.
Most of the images depicted children aged between ten and thirteen, but among them was a disturbing photo of a child aged just four.
Smith, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing indecent images of children, one count of making indecent photographs of children, and one count of distributing indecent images of children.
Judge Graham Robinson decided that a three-year community order was appropriate, which requires Smith to participate in the Northumbria Sex Offender Group Work Programme, effectively serving as a significant punishment and rehabilitation measure.
