SHAUN FURGUSSON, THE HORRIFIC DOG KILLER FROM KINGSTON UPON HULL, SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL CRIME

Shaun Andrew Furgusson, born on April 26, 1981, has become notorious in Kingston upon Hull for his heinous acts of animal cruelty and a series of violent incidents. As of December 2020, he was residing in Spring Bank, Hull HU3, where he committed a series of brutal attacks that culminated in the tragic death of a defenseless dog named Chrissie.

Furgusson's cruelty towards Chrissie was both relentless and motiveless. Over a span of three days, he subjected the mongrel to unimaginable suffering. The attack was so severe that Chrissie sustained brain damage, a punctured lung, five broken ribs, and fractured teeth. Part of her ear was deliberately cut off during the assault. The injuries inflicted were so severe that she was left in a critical state, and despite being found by her owner, she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.

The details of the attack reveal a disturbing pattern of violence. During this horrific period, Furgusson threw Chrissie at a television, kicked her repeatedly, and caused her to suffer five broken ribs. He further broke one of her legs and then bound it with wire, an act that underscores the brutality of his actions. The attack escalated to him using a hammer to assault her, smashing her teeth and shattering her skull. Witnesses described Furgusson’s kitchen as resembling a slaughterhouse, with blood splattered everywhere, illustrating the extent of the violence inflicted upon the innocent animal.

In the aftermath of the attack, Furgusson initially denied any knowledge of Chrissie’s whereabouts when questioned by her owner. However, he later called the owner to inform them that he had found Chrissie in the garden of a nearby derelict house. Tragically, when her owner arrived, Chrissie was still breathing but was in such a critical condition that she could not be saved. She was discovered lying next to a blood-stained flag, and despite efforts to save her, she died in her owner’s arms.

Furgusson’s trial revealed further troubling details. He, who already had a prior conviction for robbery, attempted to escape from court during proceedings but was quickly re-captured. His sentence for the animal cruelty was initially four months in prison, but an additional two months were added after his escape attempt. The severity of his actions and his history of criminal behavior highlight a pattern of violent and reckless conduct.

Beyond the animal cruelty case, Furgusson’s criminal record includes a series of other violent and unlawful acts. In November 2007, he was involved in a violent altercation at a family wedding in Kingston upon Hull, which was described as a “wild west brawl.” He was not invited to the wedding, and the incident resulted in his arrest along with his mother, Teresa ‘Dolly’ Furgusson, an education worker with East Riding. The fight left several people injured, including a bridesmaid and the bride’s brother.

In June 2010, Furgusson was implicated in a burglary that led to the disappearance of a family’s 14-year-old dog named Bruno. The family, who had young children, pleaded with him to return their pet, but Bruno was never recovered. For this offence, Furgusson was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Hull Crown Court.

Further incidents include a disturbing attack in December 2011, when Furgusson confronted his ex-partner, from whom he had a restraining order. He arrived at her address armed with a knife and a meat cleaver, threatening to harm himself by holding the cleaver to his neck. Fortunately, authorities intervened before any harm could be done. This incident resulted in an 18-month community order.

By 2017, Furgusson was reported to be living in a bail hostel in Hull before moving to a property on Hutt Street. Neighbors have described him as being in a constant state of drunkenness, often singing to himself. Despite his troubled history, recent social media posts suggest that he has been welcomed back into his family circle, which includes his parents, Steve and Teresa Furgusson, and his siblings, Steven, Stuart, Seb, and Natasha. He also has a teenage daughter.

In December 2021, Furgusson’s criminal activities expanded further when he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for allowing a Liverpool-based drug gang to use his home as a base for distributing heroin and crack cocaine. His drug addiction, which reportedly began at the age of 14, and his extensive criminal record—comprising 58 previous convictions—highlight a long history of unlawful behavior. During the court proceedings, Furgusson admitted to being involved in drug supply, although he claimed he did not financially benefit from the arrangement. His case underscores the ongoing cycle of violence, addiction, and criminality that has marked his life in Kingston upon Hull.
