SHAUN DONLEY FROM THORNTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN FIFE
In October 2017, a man from Fife, identified as Shaun Donley, was sentenced after being found in possession of a significant number of indecent images of children. The incident took place at his residence in Lochtybank Cottages, Thornton, where authorities uncovered disturbing evidence of his activities.Donley, aged 42, appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court to face the charges. He had previously admitted to possessing over 1,400 indecent images of minors on his computers, with the offences spanning from March 8, 2013, to November 28, 2016. The court also heard that on March 9, 2013, Donley was involved in distributing or displaying an indecent photograph of a child, further aggravating his case.
The police investigation was initiated after intelligence was received indicating that Donley was accessing and viewing such illicit material. A warrant was obtained to search his home, and during the police visit, officers confronted him about his activities. Donley responded candidly, stating, “Yes I have done occasionally,” when asked if he had been viewing indecent images. Despite this admission, he chose not to provide further details during the police interview.
During the search, officers discovered two laptops containing a disturbing collection of over 1,400 indecent images and videos depicting minors. The evidence was deemed sufficient to proceed with criminal charges.
In sentencing, Sheriff Charles MacNair imposed a community payback order that includes three years of supervision, 225 hours of unpaid work, and a 135-day restriction of liberty order. Additionally, Donley was placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for a period of five years. He will also remain on the sex offenders register for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and the serious consequences faced by those found guilty of such offences.
