September 2018 Kilwinning computer expert dad caught with nearly half a MILLION child sex abuse images A computer expert dad caught with almost half a MILLION child sex abuse images at the “worst levels of depravity” is facing jail. Shaun Dawson, 48, had nearly 433,000 pictures and 2,100 videos featuring children as young as two when police raided his home in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. The embedded software engineer stored the material along with footage of bestiality on multiple computers and external hard drives. Thousands of the stills and videos were at the worst levels of depravity, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard. In a police interview, a detective described the actions in one clip and asked Dawson: “What are your thoughts on that?” Dawson replied: “It’s disgusting.” He said in evidence he was “obsessive about security” and would take his laptop into the bathroom to do his banking. The father-of-two denied downloading and possessing the images between January 2010 and September 2016 but was found guilty on a unanimous jury verdict. Police computer forensics experts found CVs in Dawson’s name and evidence of deleted files while searching for the indecent material. Dawson was remanded in custody for sentencing after background reports. He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
