SHAUN CLARK FROM CLIFFE, MEDWAY, SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENSES AND CYBER BULLYING

In April 2010, a disturbing case emerged involving Shaun Clark, a man from Cliffe, Medway, who was convicted of serious sexual misconduct against a young boy and subsequently became the target of relentless cyberbullying. The victim, whose identity remains protected, was subjected to threats and abusive messages through various social networking platforms, adding a distressing layer to an already troubling case.

The court was also presented with evidence that Clark had circulated a link to an article purportedly written in support of him, further complicating the case. Shaun Clark, aged 36, was previously associated with the 2nd Cliffe scouting troop, where he served as a scout leader. His employment history included a position with the Serious Organised Crime Agency, a role he held until the week of his sentencing.

Clark admitted to committing two separate sexual assaults on a young boy, with the incidents occurring between January 1, 2007, and July 1 of the following year. The court heard that his inappropriate actions included rubbing the child's legs and chest beneath his T-shirt, and on another occasion, stroking the boy's stomach. These acts of abuse were described as both invasive and deeply troubling.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Shaun Clark was sentenced to four months in prison, a sentence that was suspended for two years. As part of his punishment, he is required to complete the Thames Valley Sex Offender Treatment Programme, which is accredited by the Home Office. Additionally, Clark was issued a Sexual Offences Prevention Order that will remain in effect for five years, and he is mandated to register as a sex offender.

The court also noted that Clark has since left the scouting movement, distancing himself from the organization. Judge Philip St John-Stevens emphasized that the sentence was not intended to be lenient but aimed at both punishing Clark and ensuring his rehabilitation, as well as safeguarding others from potential harm.

During the proceedings, a victim impact statement was read aloud, in which the boy's mother expressed her anguish over her son's ongoing suffering. She revealed that her son is now subjected to daily bullying and has expressed regret about reporting the abuse, wishing he had not come forward.
