SHAUN ANDERSON FROM WREXHAM SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON BABY SON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wrexham, Shaun Anderson, a 22-year-old man, was sentenced to eight years in prison for inflicting severe injuries on his three-week-old son. The incident, which occurred in July of the previous year, involved Anderson causing multiple fractures to the infant’s ribs and arms, leaving the child with serious physical trauma.

Anderson, who resides on Moorland Avenue in Wrexham, initially claimed that the injuries resulted from an accidental fall. According to his account, he had been holding the baby when he tripped over the child's moses basket, causing him to drop the infant onto the floor. He insisted that he was knocked out during the fall and only regained consciousness to find the baby seemingly unharmed. Anderson further stated that he did not immediately seek medical help, instead choosing to contact his ex-partner, believing the child was okay.

However, the jury at Mold Crown Court was not convinced by Anderson’s explanation. After a thorough trial, they convicted him of wounding with intent, a serious charge reflecting the severity of the injuries inflicted. The court heard that the baby had sustained two fractures to his ribs and three fractures to his arms, injuries that could have had long-lasting consequences if not properly treated.

During the proceedings, the mother of the child provided testimony, revealing that the baby was in good spirits and had made a good recovery following the incident. She expressed relief that her child was safe and emphasized the importance of proper medical attention, which Anderson had failed to seek immediately. Anderson’s admission of child neglect was also noted, as he acknowledged that his delay in seeking medical help was a breach of his responsibilities as a parent.

The case has drawn significant attention in Wrexham, highlighting issues surrounding child safety and parental accountability. Anderson’s sentencing underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats cases of child abuse and neglect, especially involving vulnerable infants who rely entirely on their caregivers for protection and care.
