SPENNYMOOR MAN GETS THREE YEARS FOR HARASSING AND STALKING FORMER PARTNER
A man named Shane McAloon has been sentenced to three years in prison for stalking his former partner after their two-year on/off relationship ended.The victim described the ordeal as causing her significant mental health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, and sleep problems.
The court was informed that McAloon harassed her by bombarding her with numerous messages and phone calls, some from her landline, and broke into her home twice when she was out.
He attempted to photograph her in the shower and sent her a graphic photo of himself performing a sex act while holding her underwear in her bedroom.
When she returned home, she discovered a chair under an open bathroom window, which suggested that McAloon had gained access using it.
Her previously tidy bedroom was disturbed, with her clothes scattered, a knife, and a can of lager found on her bed pillow, indicating he had been drinking during his intrusion.
A mobile phone charging in her bedroom was also missing.
The police seized McAloon's phone, which contained a photo of him in her bedroom.
Despite claiming he was elsewhere and asserting that she had given him her phone for repairs, McAloon admitted to sending emails and photos but refused to specify their contents.
In November, he pleaded guilty to stalking.
The victim's life has been heavily impacted; she has moved home, given up her job, and no longer trusts men.
His lawyer stated that at the time of the offences in 2019, McAloon was drinking heavily, using illicit drugs, and taking medication for anxiety and depression.
The court sentenced him to three years and imposed an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting or approaching his former partner.
Judge Ray Singh stated that McAloon had conducted a course of conduct designed to cause harassment, alarm, and fear, intending to inflict maximum distress and humiliation.
