SHANE GIBSON'S BRUTAL CRIME IN KINGSTON UPON HULL: DOG ATTACK AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE REVEALED

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community of Kingston upon Hull, Shane Charles Gibson, born on January 15, 1979, and residing on Holland Street, was involved in a violent attack on a defenseless dog, Sky, which resulted in severe injuries and subsequent amputation. The incident unfolded in the early hours of a morning when Gibson, under the influence of alcohol, forcibly entered his former partner's residence at approximately 4:30 am by smashing a window. His intent appeared to be driven by suspicion that she was with another man, a suspicion that was later confirmed to be true.

According to court reports, Gibson's ex-fiancée’s teenage daughter, who was alone at the house with Sky and another dog, was awakened by the noise of the break-in. She recounted that Gibson, visibly intoxicated, was staggering and reeking of alcohol as he hurried upstairs, searching for his ex-partner. During this confrontation, both dogs were reportedly jumping at him, which seemed to provoke his rage. In a fit of anger, Gibson seized Sky by the scruff of her neck and forcefully slammed her against a wall. The impact was devastating, causing Sky’s leg to break in two places, injuries that ultimately led to the dog's leg being amputated.

Further investigations revealed that Gibson's mistreatment of Sky was not an isolated event. The prosecution highlighted that as early as November of the previous year, Sky had sustained injuries after an object, believed to be either a mirror or a shelf, fell on her. Despite the injury, Gibson did not take her to the veterinarian promptly. His ex-fiancée noticed signs of injury and delayed seeking treatment, which allowed the injury to worsen. The dog’s femur had started to heal improperly, causing her significant pain. A veterinary surgeon had to re-break the bones and insert pins to correct the damage.

Gibson’s actions drew condemnation from the RSPCA, which described his treatment of Sky as 'appalling.' Initially, he denied causing unnecessary suffering to the animal on two counts. However, the magistrates, led by Judge Tom Cave, persuaded him to change his pleas to guilty, with the understanding that he would not face immediate jail time. The court sentenced Gibson to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £265 in costs and charges, which were deducted from his benefits. Additionally, he was banned from owning any pets for five years, a ban that expired in July 2022.

In a further development, Gibson’s criminal record includes a history of domestic violence. In January 2021, he was jailed for 30 months after assaulting his pregnant partner, knocking out two of her teeth. He was convicted of occasioning actual bodily harm, and threats to kill were also recorded on his file. His extensive criminal history features offenses against former partners and a grievous bodily harm conviction from 1999 involving a 12-year-old boy. The judge overseeing his case remarked on his pattern of violence, stating, “Your record shows a propensity for violence, particularly towards those weaker than you, whether it is a former partner or a 12-year-old boy.”
