SHANE BALDWIN'S SHOCKING CRIME IN CHATHAM: MAN RAPES WOMAN WHILE SHE SLEEPS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Chatham, Shane Baldwin, a 31-year-old man, was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman while she was unconscious. The incident took place at a private residence in Chatham in May 2017, where Baldwin committed the heinous act without the victim's awareness.

According to court records, the victim was sleeping peacefully in the spare room of her Chatham home when Baldwin, who was staying in another part of the house, entered her room and assaulted her during her sleep. The assault was only discovered later, and Baldwin initially denied any involvement, claiming he had no memory of the event due to being intoxicated at the time.

During the trial at Maidstone Crown Court, which concluded on August 30, 2019, Baldwin maintained his innocence, asserting that he was too drunk to recall what had happened. He further claimed that he had spent the night in a separate room, only leaving briefly to use the toilet, after which he returned to his own bed. Baldwin insisted that during this brief period, he accidentally tripped and fell onto the victim's bed, denying any sexual contact.

However, forensic evidence presented during the trial contradicted Baldwin's account. Investigators found that his DNA was present on the victim, undermining his claims of accidental contact. When questioned again, Baldwin attempted to justify the presence of his DNA by suggesting that the victim had been given pajamas previously worn by him, which could explain the forensic findings.
