NOTTINGHAM MAN WITH VIOLENT PAST SENTENCED FOR ABUSE AND THREATS
A Nottingham father, who subjected his on-off partner to a catalogue of horrific abuse, has been jailed for more than two years and banned from contacting her for a decade.Nottingham Crown Court heard how during his offending Shadrach Pennant, who has a history of violence towards women, told the victim he was going to “bodybag,” kidnap and rape her.
In a series of chilling voice messages, the defendant, of Hyson Green, described himself as “a real gangster,” “a ragamuffin,” and threatened to “punch her face out.” The woman expressed her fear that she might die at Pennant’s hands and stated she needed to relocate her and their son away from Nottingham to stay safe.
Judge James Sampson sentenced Pennant, aged 37, to two years and three months in prison and imposed a 10-year restraining order preventing contact with the victim.
The court highlighted Pennant’s troubling record of violence against women, noting that he has 11 previous convictions for 27 offences.
The case details how Pennant, with a criminal history, threatened the woman in voice messages, including phrases like “I will merk you,” meaning to kill her, as well as threats to rape and kidnap her.
He also put his arm across her face shouting he was going to bodybag her.
Pennant pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior on the first day of his trial.
The woman’s victim impact statement revealed her fear and need to leave Nottingham for her safety.
Prosecutor Jon Fountain described the ongoing threats and the history of violence.
Mitigation argued that Pennant's drug and alcohol issues contributed to his actions, and expressed remorse.
In addition to his jail term, he was given a 10-year restraining order.
Nottinghamshire Police have been contacted for Pennant’s mugshot, but it has not been provided yet.
