SEBASTIAN SIEKA FROM CRAIGNEUK AND EDINBURGH SHOCKS COMMUNITY WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CONVICTION

In October 2016, a man formerly residing in Craigneuk, who was later found living in Edinburgh, faced serious criminal charges related to the possession of child abuse images. The case drew significant attention from local residents and law enforcement alike, highlighting the disturbing nature of his crimes and the community’s response.

Sebastian Sieka, a 34-year-old father of two, appeared before Hamilton Sheriff Court to face the consequences of his actions. The court proceedings revealed that between September 2011 and March of the following year, Sieka had been in possession of indecent images of children at his then-home on Gateside Road in Craigneuk. These images were described as highly disturbing and included explicit material involving minors.

Furthermore, the court heard that Sieka also possessed extreme pornographic images that depicted in a graphic and realistic manner acts involving sexual activity between a human and an animal. During the trial, Sieka attempted to shift blame, claiming that the child pornography found on several laptops belonged to his girlfriend of five years, Julia. Julia, who was present during the proceedings, denied any involvement or knowledge of the illicit material.

Despite the guilty verdict, Sieka was not sentenced to prison. Instead, he was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid community service and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of five years. The decision to avoid jail was met with mixed reactions, but it underscored the court’s judgment that rehabilitation was possible under supervised conditions.

Following the verdict, residents of Craigneuk reacted with outrage and concern. Many expressed their disgust and fear, especially given the nature of Sieka’s crimes and the fact that he had been living among them for several years. A Police Scotland spokesperson commented on the situation, stating, “Since March, there have been numerous calls relating to persons causing annoyance to the residents of Gateside Road. On one occasion, the occupiers of the home had their vehicle and property vandalised, which appeared to be a targeted incident. Due to this, the residents have now been rehoused to a different location to prevent any further incidents of this kind from occurring.”

Earlier in May 2016, reports emerged that Sieka had been forced to leave his home after local residents learned of his crimes. The community’s anger was palpable, with many residents voicing their disgust and demanding action. Christine McGeechan, a former member of the Craigneuk Community Council, expressed her outrage, stating, “I feel disgusted that I have been living so close to someone so sick. He is a vile human being. Child porn is absolutely disgraceful. People like him should not be housed beside decent people and children. We do not want people like that living in our area.”

Another local resident, Rosemary Elliot, shared her shock and concern, saying, “I’m in shock. What goes through these sick people’s minds? It’s worrying that disgusting people like him are living in our area. Clearly, our children and animals are not safe. He needs castrated. I hope he gets locked up for a very long time.”

During the trial, Sieka claimed that the child abuse images found on his devices belonged to Julia, his girlfriend. He expressed suspicions about her involvement, but Julia denied any connection to the material. Following the court proceedings, Sieka, Julia, and their children were relocated from Craigneuk to an undisclosed area after their home and vehicles were vandalized, with windows smashed in an apparent act of retribution.

A Police Scotland spokesperson reiterated the community’s concerns, stating, “Since March, there have been numerous calls relating to persons causing annoyance to the residents of Gateside Road. On one occasion, the occupiers of the home had their vehicle and property vandalised, which appeared to have been a targeted incident. Due to this, the residents have now been rehoused to a different location to prevent any further incidents of this kind from occurring.”

Sieka’s sentencing was deferred until June 15, 2016, to allow for the preparation of reports and further legal considerations. The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding child exploitation and the importance of community vigilance and law enforcement intervention.
