SEAN WISBEY'S BRUTAL DOG ATTACK IN ST HELENS LEAVES PETS DEAD AND OWNER DEVASTATED

Sean David Wisbey, born on 25 May 1968, a man with a troubling criminal history and links to St Helens and Prenton in Birkenhead, was involved in a horrifying act of animal cruelty that shocked the local community. Despite reports suggesting he may have passed away in March 2022, his actions in 2019 continue to resonate as a stark reminder of the violence he inflicted.

Wisbey, who also goes by the name David Wisbey, carried out a brutal attack on his partner’s beloved dogs as an act of revenge. His victim, Brenda Prescott, was devastated when she returned home to find her two Yorkshire Terriers, Rosie and Tricker, severely injured and one of them tragically dead. The incident unfolded in her residence in St Helens, where she was met with a scene of chaos and heartbreak.

The attack resulted in the death of seven-year-old Rosie, who was found lifeless, covered in blood, with a dislocated back leg and multiple skull fractures caused by blunt force trauma. The post-mortem examination revealed that her injuries included a lacerated liver and skull fractures likely inflicted by pressure applied on both sides of her head. The sight of her beloved pet was too much for Ms. Prescott, who was left devastated.

Meanwhile, the second dog, Tricker, a two-year-old, was discovered hiding under a pile of laundry upstairs. She had sustained blunt force trauma, bruises, abrasions, and fractures to her pelvis. Despite Ms. Prescott’s efforts to care for her by feeding her by hand and providing water, Tricker’s injuries were severe enough that a veterinarian at the RSPCA recommended euthanasia to prevent further suffering. Tragically, Tricker was put to sleep shortly after her examination.

The cruelty came to light when Ms. Prescott returned home around 9 pm on April 11, 2019, after briefly leaving her house. She noticed the curtains were drawn, and her dogs were silent, which was unusual. Upon calling their names and searching the house, she discovered Rosie lying lifeless on the floor, and Tricker hiding upstairs. The emotional toll on Ms. Prescott was profound, as she had loved her pets dearly.

Wisbey’s arrest followed shortly after the discovery. When police arrived, he was found near the house and responded with a dismissive, “What are you on about?” as officers questioned him. During the arrest, he attempted to smash a window in the police vehicle with his handcuffs, necessitating restraint and backup. Wisbey was subsequently taken into custody and questioned but chose to remain silent during the interview.

Prosecutor Ember Wong outlined that Wisbey’s actions were premeditated acts of extreme violence aimed at hurting Ms. Prescott emotionally. The court heard that the couple had a tumultuous relationship, with threats made by Wisbey, including a previous threat to cut her dogs’ throats. Just days before the attack, they had a heated argument, and Wisbey had left her home in St Helens after threatening her pets.

Wisbey, who has a long history of criminal offenses—totaling 78 prior convictions mainly related to dishonesty—was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the attack. His mental health issues were also noted, as he had not taken prescribed medication during the incident.

In sentencing, Wisbey was handed a two-year prison term and a five-year restraining order to prevent any contact with Ms. Prescott or her pets. His current residence is listed as Trapwood Close, Eccleston, St Helens, with the postcode WA10 5NQ. The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of animal cruelty and domestic violence in the area.
