SEAN NICHOLSON BUSTED IN BACUP WITH OVER 19,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND VIDEOS

In June 2019, authorities uncovered a disturbing case involving Sean Nicholson, a resident of Elm Street in Bacup, who was found to possess an alarming collection of child abuse material. The police investigation revealed that Nicholson had stored a staggering total of 19,476 indecent images and videos depicting children engaged in sexual acts on his personal computers.

The extent of his illicit collection was uncovered after a detailed search, during which it was discovered that Nicholson had downloaded thousands of highly explicit and extreme sexual images involving children ranging from as young as two to 14 years old. The court heard that Nicholson would often view these disturbing images multiple times a week, typically spending one to two hours per session before heading to work. The majority of these images depicted children aged between six and eight, with some of the most sexually gratifying images showing children seemingly enjoying themselves, according to prosecution lawyer Brian Berlyne.

Further disturbing evidence revealed that Nicholson’s devices contained not only images of children involved in sex acts but also photographs of drugged children and explicit content involving animals. These files were stored on two computers and a hard drive, all of which bore code names suggestive of child abuse material, indicating a deliberate attempt to conceal the nature of the content.

Police investigations also uncovered that Nicholson was disguising his identity on messaging applications by posing as a teenage girl under a pseudonym. His apparent goal was to connect with others who shared similar sexual interests, potentially to facilitate further illicit activities or exchanges.

He was charged with making and possessing indecent images of children, with the offences spanning from August 2016 to August 2018. Nicholson’s criminal record included previous convictions for similar offences in 2009 and 2010, highlighting a pattern of offending behavior.

During the court proceedings, Nicholson pleaded guilty to the charges but contested the accuracy of the number of images in his possession. His defense lawyer, Saleema Mahmood, argued that Nicholson believed that additional images had been downloaded onto his devices without his knowledge and that he was unaware of the extreme nature of some of the content.

However, Judge Graeme Smith dismissed these claims, emphasizing that Nicholson was fully aware of the volume and nature of the files. The judge pointed out that the file names and the volume of images indicated that Nicholson was conscious of what he was storing. Given the severity of the case, the age of the children involved, and Nicholson’s prior convictions, the judge sentenced him to 36 months in prison, underscoring the gravity of his actions and the need for a lengthy custodial sentence.
