BARRY MAN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A “PREDATORY, devious and cynical” paedophile has been jailed for 14 years after he sexually abused two schoolgirls.
Sean Newington, 39, from Barry admitted a number of offences, including assault by penetration against the underage children.
Judge Paul Hobson described him as “predatory, devious and cynical” and highlighted the significant age difference between him and his victims.
The court heard that he touched the second girl’s bottom and had “groped” her, leading to a victim impact statement revealing struggles with sleep, confidence, anxiety, and anger.
The judge sentenced Newington to a custodial term of eight years with an extended license period of six years, categorizing him as a “dangerous” offender.
He will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of the sentence, which is five years and four months.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life, be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, and restraining orders indefinitely.
Newington's time remanded in custody will count towards his sentence, and he must pay a victim surcharge within nine months of release.
