SEAN COURTNEY OF NEWCASTLE FACES JAIL OVER CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES AND VIDEOS
A convicted paedophile, Sean Courtney from Newcastle, is facing imprisonment after being found in possession of a disturbing collection of child sexual abuse images and videos.Court documents revealed that Courtney, 32, collected these illicit materials over a four-year period until police confiscated his electronic devices in 2019.
Authorities discovered a total of 178 images and 105 videos on his devices, with Newcastle Magistrates' Court being told that 28 images and 70 videos were classified as category A—indicating the most severe level involving sexual penetration.
Additionally, Courtney had in his possession extreme pornography featuring women with dogs.
The court was informed that Courtney, of Losh Terrace in Walker, Newcastle, now faces the possibility of jail after admitting to three counts of making an indecent image of a child and one charge of possessing extreme pornographic material.
Prosecutor Jonathan Stirland stated that Courtney had downloaded this depraved material between August 1, 2015, and April 16, 2019.
He remarked, “The Crown would say this isn't suitable for this court and should be committed for sentence.” Defending lawyer Gregg Stephens explained that Courtney suffers from mental health issues.
He noted, “The starting point is 12 months custody for category A images, so I anticipate this will go to the crown court.
Mr Courtney doesn't have any convictions but does have severe mental health issues.” District Judge Paul Currer committed Courtney to Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of the offences: “You have pleaded guilty to these offences.
They are so serious, they need to be dealt with in the crown court.
You will appear there on January 19.
Please attend at 10 am.
If you fail to attend, you commit an offence for which you could be prosecuted.
Please make sure you attend.” Meanwhile, Courtney was released on conditional bail, requiring him to reside at his home address pending sentencing.
