SCOTT ORME FROM HOLMFIRTH CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN BROCKHOLS AND HOLMEBANK MEWS

In October 2017, a disturbing case unfolded involving Scott Orme, a resident of Holmfirth, who was found in possession of highly disturbing images depicting the sexual abuse of young children. The incident sparked outrage within his local community, particularly in the nearby areas of Brockholes and Holmebank Mews, where residents expressed their deep concern and fear over the safety of their children.

Orme, aged 22 at the time, appeared before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to possessing indecent images of children. The court was informed that he had been caught with four such images on his mobile phone, two of which fell into the most severe Category A classification, indicating images involving penetrative sexual acts. The remaining two images were classified as Category C, representing less severe indecent images.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Orme had initially provided an address at Holmebank Mews, although it is understood that he has since moved away from the area. The court heard how members of the community, which is described as family-oriented, reacted violently after discovering details of his offending. Several residents, visibly upset and angry, attended the court hearing and publicly labeled him a “dirty paedophile” as they left the courtroom.

Prosecutor Jill Seddon highlighted that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and police had received numerous letters and statements from concerned residents, emphasizing the community’s distress and fear. In response, the court imposed several strict conditions on Orme. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for the same duration. The SHPO explicitly prohibited him from possessing any device capable of internet access unless it could be monitored and made available to police upon request. Additionally, he was barred from possessing any device capable of storing digital images or software that could obscure device history.

Judge Michael Fanning addressed Orme directly, expressing grave concern about the community’s fears and the potential risk he posed. The judge emphasized that viewing such images involves the abuse of children and fuels a harmful market that perpetuates ongoing abuse. While noting that there was no evidence Orme had engaged in actual contact with children beyond viewing images, the judge warned that continued offending could lead to lengthy imprisonment. He also stressed the importance of stopping such behavior to prevent further harm.

Orme was also ordered to complete a two-year community order, which includes participation in the Horizon project, a program aimed at addressing the behavior of sex offenders. The court further mandated the destruction of all images seized during the investigation.

Prior to this sentencing, residents had already voiced their fears following delays in the legal process. After Orme’s initial guilty plea, the case was adjourned multiple times, with community members organizing public meetings—some attended by police—to seek assurances about their children’s safety. Despite Orme’s departure from Holmebank Mews, community concern remains high, especially given the vigilante attacks he reportedly suffered after his offending was discovered.

In summary, the case of Scott Orme from Holmfirth underscores the ongoing community fears surrounding child exploitation and the legal measures taken to prevent further harm. The court’s rulings aim to monitor and restrict Orme’s access to digital devices and prevent any contact with minors, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the community’s demand for safety and justice.
