SCOTT MCLEAN SENTENCED IN PERTH FOR DECADES OF SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST GIRLS AND WOMEN

A man identified as Scott McLean has been formally convicted and sentenced in a Perth court for a series of serious sexual offenses spanning over a decade. The 36-year-old offender received a substantial prison term of 14 years extended imprisonment after being found guilty on 11 criminal charges related to sexual misconduct. The court proceedings revealed that McLean’s pattern of offending began when he was just 17 years old, back in 2005, marking a long and troubling history of predatory behavior.

His criminal activities included assaulting two young girls at North Muirton Primary School and other locations within Perth during 2005 and 2006. Further investigations uncovered that he also abused another girl from 2006 to 2008 at various sites across Perth, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of exploitation and violence against minors. The court was also informed of additional offenses committed in Glasgow in April 2012, where McLean raped a woman, adding to the severity of his criminal record.

Between 2015 and 2019, McLean continued his offending spree, engaging in multiple assaults that involved non-consensual acts while the victims were asleep or unaware, including incidents during a WhatsApp call. These acts underscored the calculated and heinous nature of his crimes, which caused significant trauma to the victims involved.

During the sentencing hearing, Lady Tait, the presiding judge, emphasized the seriousness of McLean’s crimes. She commended the victims for their bravery in providing evidence, which was instrumental in securing his conviction. The court sentenced McLean to serve 10 years in prison, with an additional four-year extension that allows for community supervision upon release. Furthermore, McLean will be registered on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Legal restrictions were also imposed, including non-harassment orders and other measures aimed at protecting potential future victims. Scotland’s Procurator Fiscal publicly highlighted the grave danger McLean poses to women and young girls, describing his actions as depraved. The Fiscal emphasized that the victims’ courage in coming forward was crucial in bringing him to justice and underscored the importance of such convictions in safeguarding the community.

Police and judicial officials expressed their hope that this lengthy sentence will serve as a strong message that sexual offending of this nature is unacceptable and will be met with severe consequences.
