SCOTT KIRKUP FROM NEWCASTLE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN HEATON
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Newcastle, a man identified as Scott Kirkup has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous offences involving a young boy from the Heaton area.According to court reports, Kirkup, who has no fixed address but was formerly residing in Heaton, Newcastle, engaged in a disturbing pattern of grooming, sexual abuse, and attempted rape against a minor.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, endured severe psychological trauma as a result of Kirkup’s actions, which included not only physical assaults but also the exploitation of indecent images of children downloaded from the internet.
Last year, Kirkup was already sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for the possession and distribution of indecent images.
However, the recent court proceedings have resulted in a significantly harsher sentence, with Kirkup being sentenced to eight years in prison for the offences directly related to the young boy.
This sentence also includes an extended licence period of four additional years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
During the sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court, the victim bravely provided a statement describing the profound and lasting impact of Kirkup’s actions.
The young person revealed feelings of paranoia, nightmares, and flashbacks, which continue to haunt him.
He explained, “I’m paranoid when out and worried about being followed.
I have nightmares and I shout and scream and sometimes wake up.
I have flashbacks of bad things happening.” The victim also shared that he has become emotionally volatile, experiencing angry outbursts and panic attacks.
He expressed a fear of being alone with other men and a difficulty with physical contact, which he attributes directly to the abuse he suffered.
“If I hear his name mentioned everything comes flooding back and I freeze.
I feel my innocence has been stolen and I’m not the boy I was before he abused me.
I’m a different person now, for the worse,” he stated.
Scott Kirkup pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempted rape, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexual assault, and causing a child to watch a sexual act.
His sentencing also mandated that he must sign the sex offenders register for life, be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, and adhere to a restraining order to protect the victim and others from further harm.
Community members and advocates have expressed their outrage and concern over the case, emphasizing the importance of justice for victims of such predatory crimes.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and support for victims of child sexual abuse in Newcastle and beyond.
