In a case that has shocked the community of Leyland, a man identified as Scott Ascroft has been formally convicted and sentenced for the heinous crime of raping a 14-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in September 2009, led to a lengthy legal process culminating in a conviction at Preston Crown Court.Scott Ascroft, aged 39 and residing on Bannister Drive in Leyland, was handed a prison sentence of five years and four months. The severity of the sentence reflects the gravity of the offence and the impact it has had on the young victim and her family. The court's decision underscores the seriousness with which such crimes are treated within the justice system.
Detective Inspector Marc Nasser, who was involved in the investigation, described the offence as “horrendous” and expressed his strong feelings about the case. He stated, “He subjected his victim to a prolonged sexual attack and showed no remorse whatsoever during the police investigation.” Nasser emphasized the brutality and the callousness of Ascroft’s actions, which left a lasting trauma on the young girl.
During the investigation, Ascroft initially denied the allegations despite the presence of forensic evidence linking him to the crime. It was only during the court proceedings that he finally admitted guilt, a fact that the detective inspector highlighted as indicative of his complete disregard for the consequences of his actions and for his young victim. Nasser further commented, “This is a further example of Ascroft’s complete disregard for his actions and his child victim.”
The case has been described as a despicable and traumatic ordeal for the girl involved. Detective Nasser expressed hope that the lengthy sentence would provide some measure of closure for her and her family, acknowledging the profound impact such an attack has on a young person’s life.
In addition to his prison sentence, Scott Ascroft has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from any potential future harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of justice for victims of sexual assault and the commitment of law enforcement to pursue such offenders relentlessly.
