PENSIONER WHO SEXUALLY ABUSED CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS FOUR IS JAILED
An elderly man convicted of abusing four young girls, including two who were only four years old, has received a prison sentence.
Sazzad Miah, aged 83, inflicted harm on his victims over a period of 12 years, with the earliest assault dating back over two decades.
The historic abuse cases span a total of 23 years.
Miah was detained in October 2017 following an anonymous tip-off to police.
Despite denying all allegations, he was convicted of 18 separate sexual offences after a 16-day trial at Cambridge Crown Court.
His charges included five counts of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, four counts of rape, two counts of raping a child under 13, four counts of sexual abuse of a child under 13, and one count of sexual activity with a minor.
The court heard that Miah assaulted one girl from 1992 to 2004 and another between 2004 and 2012.
His victims were aged four, five, and ten when the abuse began.
At Peterborough Crown Court, Miah was sentenced to 18 years behind bars on June 26 for his egregious crimes, with an additional one year on licence.
His sentences for each offence included: four years for indecent assault, 18 months and two years for indecency with a child, up to 19 years for the most serious rape charges, and various terms between six and seven years for other sexual offences.
