SCOTTISH OFFENDER CONVICTED OF FLIGHT SEXUAL ASSAULT
Father-of-three Saranjeet Bassi, aged 29, was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman during a flight to Heathrow. The incident occurred after he reached through a gap in the seats in front of him and groped the woman in front of her children on a Qatar Airways flight.
The victim described the assault as "sexual, the grabbing of my boob," and expressed her emotions of anger and violation, stating, "I was angry and wanted him off the flight.
I was with my kids and it makes me feel sick and violated.
He took advantage and I don't want him to do this to anyone else." Bassi, living at 23 Craiglea, Causewayhead, Stirling, was found guilty of sexual assault that took place on December 12 of the previous year.
The court heard Bassi had issues with alcohol, having been convicted in 2014 of exposing himself and playing with himself in front of two women.
He was sentenced to a two-year community order, required to complete 200 hours of community service, and pay £1,000 in costs.
Additionally, Bassi was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years and attend at least 100 days of a rehabilitation program, including alcohol treatment.
The victim recounted that Bassi began playing with her 18-month-old son shortly after takeoff, and she confronted him after the assault.
Despite reporting the incident to cabin crew, Bassi refused to move and told police that doing so would be an admission of guilt.
