SARAH CANDY FROM CORBY JAILED FOR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH SCHOOLBOY IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Corby, Northamptonshire, a teaching assistant named Sarah Candy, aged 36, has been sentenced to prison for engaging in sexual activities with a teenage pupil. The incident came to light after her own husband, James Candy, 41, secretly recorded her with the boy using a hidden camera installed in their home.According to court proceedings, the footage revealed Sarah Candy kissing and cuddling the young student on her marital bed. The revelation was particularly devastating for her husband, who had become suspicious of her frequent interactions with the teenage boy from the school where she worked. James Candy, acting on his suspicions, decided to investigate further by setting up a covert recording device in their bedroom. He left his phone recording and later discovered the intimate footage.
The court heard that just a week prior to the incident, Sarah Candy had confided in her husband about her desire to leave their 19-year marriage. However, her husband's suspicions grew as he noticed her regular contact with the teenage pupil, which he found increasingly concerning. The footage, once reviewed, confirmed his fears, showing clear evidence of inappropriate behavior between his wife and the minor.
James Candy handed the recorded footage over to the police, leading to Sarah Candy’s arrest and subsequent charges of sexual activity with a person under the age of 16. She did not contest the charges and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. Her guilty plea resulted in her being sentenced to 12 months in prison during a hearing at Northampton Crown Court.
During the sentencing, Judge Lynn Tayton QC emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that there was a “clear sexual element” to the contact between Sarah Candy and the teenage boy. The judge further stated, “This is clearly a case that crosses the custody threshold,” indicating the gravity of her actions and the need for custodial punishment.
Prosecutor Mary Prior explained that when confronted by her husband about the footage, Candy claimed that the interactions with the boy were merely “play fighting,” a statement that the court found to be unconvincing given the evidence. The judge ordered that Candy serve half of her sentence in custody before being eligible for release on licence, reflecting the severity of her misconduct and the breach of trust involved.
