SANJOY RAJPUT FROM WITHAM SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AND SHPO BREACHES IN ESSEX
In December 2020, a man from Witham, Sanjoy Rajput, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and failing to comply with the requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.The incident unfolded when officers from the Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders team (MOSOVO) conducted an unannounced visit to Rajput's residence on Harebell Drive, Witham, on September 23.
During this visit, the officers discovered that Rajput was in possession of a mobile phone, which he was explicitly prohibited from having under the terms of his SHPO.
This breach was considered a serious violation of the order designed to restrict his contact and activities related to his previous offenses.
Further investigation revealed that Rajput had recently obtained a new credit card, a detail that raised concerns because he was required by law to inform authorities about any such financial changes under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Sanjoy Rajput, aged 53, was promptly arrested following these discoveries.
He faced multiple charges, including breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order and five counts of failing to adhere to the notification requirements of the sexual offenders register.
These additional charges also included allegations that he used an alias to groom young females online, a serious offense that underscores the manipulative tactics he employed.
Rajput admitted to the charges during proceedings at Chelmsford Crown Court.
His guilty plea was entered on October 22.
Subsequently, on November 27, the court sentenced him to 18 months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his violations and the importance of safeguarding the community from individuals who breach such legal restrictions.
His case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to monitor and enforce compliance among registered sex offenders, especially those who attempt to circumvent restrictions through technological means or financial concealment.
