SANJAYAN NADARAJAH FROM TADWORTH JAILED FOR UPSKIRTING ON LONDON UNDERGROUND

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community and the wider public, Sanjayan Nadarajah, a 43-year-old resident of Shelvers Way in Tadworth, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in a series of invasive and illegal activities on the London Underground. The incident, which took place between May and July of 2018, involved Nadarajah secretly filming nearly 50 women as they traveled on the Tube, using a concealed camera hidden inside his laptop bag.

According to reports from the British Transport Police (BTP), Nadarajah used a camera phone discreetly placed within his bag to capture images and videos of women’s skirts without their knowledge or consent. These recordings were then uploaded and made publicly accessible on a pornographic website, causing significant distress among the victims and raising serious concerns about privacy violations and sexual misconduct.

During police interviews, Nadarajah admitted to deriving sexual gratification from the act of covertly filming women. He explicitly stated that he never sought permission from any of the women he targeted, highlighting the invasive and non-consensual nature of his actions. The authorities were alerted to the videos after they were found online, and investigators quickly traced the content back to Nadarajah, who was subsequently identified and located at his home in Tadworth.

His arrest took place in October, and further inquiries confirmed that he had filmed a total of 46 videos under women’s skirts during the specified period. The case was brought before Blackfriars Crown Court, where a victim impact statement was read aloud. The statement, from a 22-year-old woman, expressed her feelings of being “sickened” and “paranoid” upon discovering that Nadarajah had secretly filmed her without her knowledge, emphasizing the emotional and psychological toll such violations can cause.

On February 4, at Highbury Magistrates’ Court, Nadarajah pleaded guilty to five counts of outraging public decency and two counts of voyeurism. His guilty plea acknowledged the severity of his actions and the breach of personal privacy involved. Subsequently, on March 11, Blackfriars Crown Court handed down a sentence of eight months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offenses. Additionally, Nadarajah was subjected to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, designed to restrict his future conduct and protect the public from potential harm.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the enforcement of laws against voyeurism and privacy violations, especially in public spaces like the London Underground, where individuals have a right to feel safe and secure from invasive acts such as those committed by Nadarajah.
