SANJAY MAHALINGAM FROM BEXHILL JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN BEXHILL AND SIDLEY

In a disturbing series of events that unfolded in Bexhill, a local man named Sanjay Mahalingam was sentenced to a total of eight weeks in custody following his involvement in two separate sexual assault incidents targeting women in the town.

Mahalingam, who resides on Wickham Avenue and is employed at a fast food restaurant located on Ninfield Road, was charged with assaulting two women on different occasions in early May. The first incident occurred on Sunday, May 8, when he approached a 36-year-old woman walking along Sidley Road. After engaging her in brief conversation, Mahalingam inappropriately touched her over her clothing, an act that left the victim visibly shaken and distressed.

Just four days later, on Thursday, May 12, Mahalingam targeted a 16-year-old girl in the vicinity of Watermill Lane. He suddenly and without warning touched her indecently above her clothing before fleeing the scene. Witnesses and police investigations quickly identified Mahalingam as the suspect, leading to his swift arrest on the same day.

Although neither victim sustained physical injuries, both were deeply upset and disturbed by the incidents. The emotional impact on the victims was evident, highlighting the seriousness of the offenses.

Mahalingam appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court on Friday, May 13, where he pleaded guilty to both charges. The court sentenced him to four weeks imprisonment for each offense, with the sentences to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of eight weeks behind bars. Additionally, Mahalingam will be required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the legal system’s response to such offenses.
