Samuel Peebles

Drymen Sexual Abuser

October 2015 Bouncer who broke baby’s leg jailed for 18 months A FORMER nightclub door steward who inflicted terrible injuries on a three-week-old baby boy was jailed for 18 months today. Samuel Peebles repeatedly lied in the wake of the attack and at one point the child’s mother was detained during a police investigation but was released without charge. Peebles (32) eventually admitted that he had lost his temper with the crying, colic-stricken child and squeezed his chest. He struck the infant against his leg, leaving a bruise above his own knee cap, and threw him into the corner of a settee. Peebles had been looking after the baby boy while the child’s mother was sleeping at her home in Dumbarton, in West Dunbartonshire, in May last year. The tiny victim suffered a broken leg and fractured ribs in the attack. A judge told Peebles at the High Court in Edinburgh: “It is difficult to think of a more vulnerable victim than a three-week-old child.” Lord Boyd of Duncansby said: “In a moment of madness you carried out an act of violence on a three week-old child.” The judge rejected a plea by defence lawyers to spare the first offender a jail sentence. Lord Boyd said: “In a moment of frustration you inflicted some very serious injuries.” Peebles, of Lochview, Buchanan Castle Estate, Drymen, in Stirlingshire, had earlier admitted assaulting the boy to his severe injury by seizing hold of him, compressing his chest and rib cage with his hands, striking him against his leg and throwing him onto a sofa. Peebles had told the child’s mother after the attack that he was worried about the baby’s leg as it seemed swollen. Prosecutor Paul Brown told the judge: “The accused offered no possible explanation at that time as to how the boy had hurt his leg.” The woman described the limb as looking “crumpled” and contacted a hospital. Peebles claimed to a doctor that the child’s foot and leg had become trapped between his legs. Medical experts concluded that injuries sustained by the child were non-accidental. The door steward, who had worked at Victoria’s nightclub in Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street, later told police that he had walked into a door while he was holding the child. he then gave a later statement claiming that he had fallen while carrying the baby, crushing him with his body weight. But Peebles later revealed that he had lost his temper with the infant and assaulted him. September 2015 Man admits breaking month old babys leg because the child was crying A court has heard how a bouncer broke a baby’s leg because he would not stop crying. Samuel Peebles gripped the boy around the chest, slammed him down on his knee before throwing the child into a couch. A judge heard how the infant – who also suffered rib fractures – was less than a month old at the time Peebles kept quiet about the attack – even allowing the baby’s mum to be held by police. But, the 32 year-old eventually confessed to what he had done claiming he had “lost his temper. Peebles, of Buchanan Castle Estate, Drymen, Stirlingshire, now faces jail after he admitted to assaulting the child in May last year. The High Court in Glasgow heard how the baby was born in April 2014. He was described as “thriving and developing well”. Prior to the attack, the child had been suffering from colic, but was otherwise healthy. Peebles helped look after the infant at the flat where the boy lived with his mum in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire. Peebles worked at the time as a door steward at Glasgow’s Victoria’s nightclub. The evening before the assault, the boy’s mum had gone on a night out leaving him home alone with the youngster. She later returned around midnight and her child was uninjured. But, the next morning, Peebles told the woman he was worried about the baby’s leg as it appeared swollen. Prosecutor Paul Brown said: “The accused offered no possible explanation at that time as to how the child had hurt his leg.” The boy was immediately taken to hospital where Peebles then told a doctor he had noticed the injury while feeding the baby. He insisted the child’s leg and foot had become trapped between his own legs resulting in the boy crying. But, this was soon ruled out by medics as the distressed baby was transferred to the then Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill. It was discovered the child had a fractured left thigh-bone. There were also “irregularities” on his shin-bone and forearm. A further x-ray revealed a number of rib fractures. It also showed up concerns with his right leg. Mr Brown: “Medical experts concluded that the injuries were non-accidental and had occurred over a period of 0-10 days prior to the child first attending hospital.” Police quizzed both Peebles and the boy’s mum. Peebles again initially repeated his claim about the child’s leg getting “stuck” while looking after him.Officers eventually detained both Peebles and the mum on May 30. The court heard Peebles was “upset and crying” while being quizzed by police.Mr Brown: “He maintained that he trapped the child’s leg between his own.” He then stated that he was tired and had fallen on the stairs whilst carrying the boy crushing him with his body weight.” Peebles stated the boy was screaming, but appeared uninjured.” Prior to being charged, Peebles also claimed he had not revealed this before as he had been “embarrassed and scared”. The boy’s mum was meantime was released without charge. But, the court heard the thug later finally revealed the truth to his legal team. Peebles said he had been working nights as a bouncer at the time later having “a few hours sleep”. On the day of the attack, the baby was unsettled and in pain from colic. Peebles recalled eventually lying with the infant on the settee to try and calm the child, but lost his temper He sat up and lifted the child, squeezed his chest with his hands and brought him forcibly onto his knee. He threw him into the corner of the settee. This was one continuous motion and was described as “forcible”
