SAMUEL CHAMBERLAIN AND KANKAMON SUKCHUEN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC BABY TORTURE IN BRISTOL AND CHORLEY

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Bristol and Chorley, a young couple has been sentenced for subjecting their infant son to an unimaginable ordeal of cruelty and physical abuse. Samuel Chamberlain and Kankamon Sukchuen, both aged 19, appeared before Bristol Crown Court to face charges related to the severe injuries inflicted upon their six-month-old baby boy.

Over a period of approximately 50 days, the child endured a series of brutal acts that resulted in multiple fractures and internal injuries. Medical examinations revealed that the infant had sustained fractures to his legs, ribs, ankles, wrists, and spine. The injuries were so extensive that they marked one of the most severe cases of child trauma seen by medical professionals in nearly two decades. The court heard that the injuries included displaced fractures of both thigh bones, fractures to the wrists, fractures above and below the knees, as well as above the left ankle. Additionally, the child suffered from multiple rib fractures, which were consistent with being squeezed tightly, leading to internal bleeding and hemorrhages in his eyes. The trauma also caused cuts to his tongue and burns to his mouth, inflicted by a hot object.

Prosecutors detailed the horrifying nature of the abuse, emphasizing that the injuries were deliberately inflicted. The court was told that the couple’s actions included bending the child's fingers backward, twisting his limbs intentionally, and burning his mouth. Despite the severity of the injuries, it was not possible for medical experts to determine which of the two defendants caused specific injuries, as both were involved in the abuse.

During the proceedings, the court heard that the couple had lied to medical professionals, social workers, and police officers about the origins of the injuries. They offered false explanations, claiming that the child had been injured accidentally, such as getting his hand caught or poking himself in the eye. These deceptions were uncovered during investigations, which ultimately led to the child's rescue and the subsequent legal action.

A spokesperson for Bristol City Council confirmed that social workers and health professionals had been involved with the family from the child's birth. The child was regularly examined by various health experts, and it was due to the vigilance of a health visitor that the injuries were finally identified. Once the abuse was uncovered, immediate protective measures were taken to ensure the child's safety. The council representative assured the public that the child is now safe and in good health, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and professional oversight in such cases.
