SAMANTHA SMITH FROM BLANTYRE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN EAST KILBRIDE

In a case that has shocked the local community, Samantha Smith, a 30-year-old woman from Blantyre, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young children in East Kilbride. The disturbing incidents spanned several years, with Smith targeting a boy aged five and a three-year-old girl at a residence in East Kilbride, with the abuse continuing until the children reached the ages of eight and five, respectively.

The initial concerns surfaced in 2012 when the young girl disclosed that Smith had inappropriately touched her. She also revealed that Smith had used a book and a wrapper from a packet of sweets to carry out her abuse. This revelation prompted a police investigation; however, authorities concluded that there was insufficient evidence at that time to proceed with criminal charges.

Despite the lack of immediate prosecution, the case took a significant turn in 2017 when the boy, who has autism, disclosed that Smith had also targeted him. Following a police interview, the boy was so terrified that he fled his home, prompting a search for the missing child. He was eventually found hiding in a bush, visibly distressed but unharmed.

Samantha Smith’s trial was held at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where she faced charges of sexual abuse committed between November 2009 and June 2014. She denied any wrongdoing throughout the proceedings. However, after a jury deliberated for just an hour, she was convicted of abusing the two children at the East Kilbride residence.

During her previous court appearance, Smith was visibly emotional, crying hysterically in the dock and shouting, “I’m not a beast,” as the guilty verdicts were announced. Her emotional outburst underscored the gravity of the case and the profound impact of her actions on the victims and their families.
