SAMANTHA NORRIS FROM RINGWOOD JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND SEXUAL OFFENSES IN HAMPSHIRE

A woman from Ringwood has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing extreme child abuse images. The court also cleared her of allegations that she exposed herself to two 11-year-old girls in her flat.

Samantha Norris, aged 56, faced a series of serious charges at Southampton Crown Court. The jury acquitted her of two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, which were alleged to have occurred on July 27, 2023. The prosecution claimed that Norris, who is in the process of gender transitioning, deliberately exposed her genitals through the window of her residence, thereby exposing the two young girls to her nudity.

During the trial, Norris maintained that she was a naturist who often went without clothes inside her home. She argued that the children could only have seen her if they had been spying on her, and she denied any malicious intent. Norris explained that she had been subjected to abuse from other youths in Ringwood and believed that the two girls had been taunting her.

The prosecution, led by Charles Gabb, described how Norris was seen naked by the two girls on two consecutive days. Gabb stated that Norris, who now has a penis due to her gender transition, was standing fully naked at her window, seemingly reveling in her nudity and intentionally drawing attention to herself. He described her as almost glorifying her nudity over a period of time, fully aware that the children were watching.

Gabb further alleged that Norris was posturing and manipulating her genitals in front of the children, with one of the girls describing how Norris was throwing her penis around. Both girls reportedly saw her playing with herself, which caused them distress and alarm. The court was told that Norris showed no attempt to cover herself or act modestly, which the prosecution argued was indicative of her intent.

Norris claimed she believed the children only saw her head and shoulders and justified her nudity by stating she was a naturist who did not see the need to wear clothes inside her own home. She added that her lifestyle sometimes attracted unwanted attention and that she believed the children had been taunting her.

Following the jury’s verdict of not guilty on the exposure charges, Norris pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C, as well as possessing prohibited images and an extreme image involving sexual activity with an animal.

The court heard that Norris possessed approximately 16,000 images of children, including around 2,000 still images and 121 videos classified as category A, which is the most serious. These images depicted children as young as three years old, with some showing distress and pain.

Judge Nicholas Rowland sentenced Norris to two years in prison and imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. The judge highlighted that Norris had in her possession written notes detailing sexual fantasies involving a four-and-a-half-year-old child and a New Year’s resolution to have sex with a girl under 10.

Addressing Norris directly, Judge Rowland emphasized that her actions and attitudes showed a disturbing lack of remorse and understanding of her victims’ suffering. He described her as having distorted views and a high risk of harm to children, warning that her refusal to accept the seriousness of her offenses was deeply concerning.

The court concluded that Norris’s decision not to plead guilty earlier was likely motivated by a desire to avoid admitting her full extent of offending in front of the jury. Her case underscores the severity of her crimes and the ongoing threat she poses to the safety of children in the Ringwood area and beyond.
