PLYMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS FACE-BITING AND DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A man identified as Sam Smith, aged 30, has been sentenced to jail for a brutal assault on his partner, which included biting her face, punching her to break her nose, and dragging her around the flat. During the incident, Smith also falsely claimed that the attack was accidental by faking text messages from his victim to the authorities. Plymouth Crown Court heard that Smith's actions left the woman with a broken nose, two black eyes, and bite marks on her arm and face. The judge, Peter Johnson, condemned the attack as an "extremely ugly incident," emphasizing that although there was some provocation, there was no justification for his violence. Smith attempted to undermine the case by trying to send himself messages claiming the incident was an accident, but this was deemed "crude and short-lived." Smith admitted to assaulting the woman causing actual bodily harm on December 4, 2016, and also pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. The court ordered him to pay the woman £2,000 in compensation and £500 towards prosecution costs. Additionally, a restraining order was issued forbidding Smith from contacting or approaching the woman. Smith, who was formerly a roofer from Devonport, expressed intentions to move to Durham, where he was expecting a child with a new partner.
