SAM BODDINGTON'S HORRIFIC ATTACK IN GOOLE LEAVES DOG AND GIRLFRIEND TERRIFIED

Samuel Bodington, born on May 22, 1990, and residing on Aire Street in Goole, has been convicted of a brutal assault that shocked the local community. The incident involved the violent strangulation of a small dog named Luna, as well as an unprovoked attack on his girlfriend, both of which occurred during a drug-fueled episode.

According to court reports, Bodington's girlfriend was caring for Luna, a female chihuahua who had previously suffered cruelty at the hands of a former owner. The dog was left visibly distressed after the attack, with her tongue hanging out and exhibiting signs of being extremely shaken and jumpy. The incident drew significant concern from witnesses and animal welfare advocates alike.

The events unfolded on the evening of April 21, 2023, when Bodington arrived at his girlfriend’s residence in Goole around 7:30 pm. The gathering was a party where alcohol was freely consumed, and both Bodington and his girlfriend had taken Pregabalin tablets, which they obtained from a local drug dealer. Witnesses described a sudden and alarming change in Bodington’s behavior, noting that he appeared to switch from normal to aggressive almost instantaneously.

Prosecutor Michael Forrest explained that Bodington’s demeanor shifted dramatically, with the defendant becoming visibly agitated, loud, and hallucinating. His behavior caused his girlfriend to become frightened, prompting her to ask him to leave. Instead of complying, Bodington began verbally abusing her, calling her derogatory names. The situation escalated rapidly when Bodington launched himself at her, dragging both her and Luna to the floor.

While on the ground, Bodington grabbed the woman by the throat and also seized the neck of the small dog. He applied pressure to her neck, causing her to gasp for air, and similarly held onto Luna’s neck, which resulted in the dog’s tongue hanging out as she struggled to breathe. The woman managed to force Bodington to release his grip and immediately contacted the police. Bodington was swiftly arrested at the scene.

The aftermath of the attack left Luna visibly shaken, and her owner described her as being very jumpy and distressed. The woman later stated that Bodington’s assault on her was completely unprovoked, highlighting the severity of his violent outburst.

During the initial court hearing in July 2023, Judge John Thackray KC condemned Bodington’s actions, emphasizing the terror inflicted upon both the woman and the dog. The judge remarked that the incident could have been far more serious, noting that it takes only seconds for someone to lose consciousness when strangled. Bodington admitted to the charges of intentionally strangling his girlfriend and causing unnecessary suffering to Luna.

He was initially sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended, but this sentence was activated in late March 2024 after he repeatedly failed to attend probation appointments. As part of his punishment, Bodington was also banned from keeping any animals for two years, with the ban set to expire in July 2025. The case has drawn widespread condemnation, highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and violent behavior in the community of Goole.
