SHEFFIELD MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL SEXUAL ASSAULT ON ELDERLY WOMAN
A Sheffield man who assaulted and sexually attacked an elderly woman out in a park has been incarcerated.Saed Mohammed, aged 23 and residing in The Oval, Sheffield, punched and kicked a pensioner in her 80s during an incident in Firth Park in December 2022.
After the assault, he dragged her into the bushes and subjected her to a sexual attack.
The elderly woman begged him to stop, but he fled the scene.
She sustained facial bruises and a cut requiring stitches, and the attack left her deeply traumatised.
Reports indicate she later suffered a brain injury, likely caused by the violence she endured.
Detective Constable Arron Connolly noted that the victim was previously independent but now needs assistance with daily routines and does not feel safe diverting in the park during litter picking.
Her family has been supporting her through her recovery process.
The police linked Mohammed to the attack after finding his mobile phone near the crime scene.
He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm under section 18 and sexual assault charges, and last week was sentenced to ten years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court.
Acting Detective Sergeant Megan Pryce commended the victim’s courage, praising her for enduring the assault and the subsequent court proceedings.
Detective Connolly added that the investigation involved extensive effort, including scene work, witness interviews, and CCTV reviews, which led to Mohamed’s conviction.
He also expressed that it’s a relief to have him jailed, preventing further victimisation, and acknowledged the victim’s strength in the face of trauma.
