BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT REVENGE ATTACK ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
A woman was forced to flee from a hotel room in Birmingham after being beaten up by her jealous ex-boyfriend in a revenge attack.The victim was left "cowering" behind a reception desk while Ryan Pugh threatened another guest who had tried to intervene.The court heard how Pugh became controlling, telling his partner what to wear and repeatedly asking her if she was sleeping with his friend, said Richard McConaghy, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court.He said that then escalated into him being violent towards her, breaking her ribs, splitting her lip and giving her black eyes.
Although she did not make a complaint to the police, the court heard.However, in October 2019 he was made the subject of a restraining order after being convicted of battery.
Pugh, though, continued to message her, making a threat to kill her mother and suggested a meeting at a hotel in Aston.The victim reluctantly agreed and after going to the hotel in September, last year, they went for a night out.
She felt increasingly uncomfortable during the evening and there was an incident in the road which resulted in Pugh suffering a cut to his arm.Mr McConaghy said they then took a taxi back to the hotel "where he exacted his revenge." In the room the defendant repeatedly banged the victim's head forcibly on the wall, punched her in the face and dragged her around.The hotel's concierge, disturbed by the noise, went to the room.
He said "As he did so the door burst open and she ran out of the room" and she was "bleeding from the face".Pugh initially went to chase her but returned to the room.
About 10 minutes later the defendant came down where his partner was cowering behind the desk and the concierge tried to get between them.Pugh made threats to her and when a guest told the defendant he needed to leave the defendant told him he would "embarrass him in front of his wife" which he took to be a threat.
He also squared up to him and clenched his fists and after Pugh left the concierge locked the doors.In passing sentence Judge Paul Farrer QC said: "The relationship had difficulties in that you were jealous, controlling and violent.
This was prolonged and serious violence." Simon Hanns, defending, said: "He accepts he needs help."
