HULL MAN SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
A man with a history of violence who repeatedly assaulted his frightened partner was met with retaliation when bystanders intervened, beating him severely and leaving him unconscious.Ryan Parker, aged 32 and from Portobello Street near Holderness Road in East Hull, suffered injuries including a black eye, a fractured eye socket, and a broken cheekbone during this incident, Hull Crown Court heard.
Parker admitted to charges of causing actual bodily harm to his girlfriend, possessing a knife, and making threatening remarks or gestures on July 28.
Prosecutor Oliver Shipley detailed that Parker and the woman had been in a tumultuous relationship for about 14 years that had worsened over time.
After an evening at a pub playing darts, Parker arrived at her residence in an irritable and aggressive state.
He insulted her, telling her she deserved to die and was a waste of space.
He then viciously assaulted her, hitting her face with enough force to toss her to the ground, Hull Live reported.
He continued to punch and kick her in the head, face, and torso, resulting in swelling and bruising.
With the door ajar during the attack, Parker threatened anyone who tried to help.
"He threatened anyone who attempted to assist," Mr.
Shipley explained.
The victim managed to escape onto the street, shouting for help, while Parker kept up his aggressive behavior outside, brandishing a knife and insulting a nearby Good Samaritan.
He retreated indoors shortly before armed police caught him.
During police questioning, Parker remained silent, despite having no previous convictions.
The victim later said she was terrified, stating, "I do not want Parker near my home or my children," expressing her devastation: "I am truly broken and shocked by everything." The defense lawyer, Ben Hammersley, highlighted that Parker had sustained injuries himself, including a fractured eye socket and cheekbone, allegedly from being attacked by others.
After being treated by paramedics, Parker needed hospital care for his injuries, which included a visible scar near his eye.
Hammersley described how, after regaining consciousness from being knocked out, Parker was terrified he was still being assaulted.
The incident was viewed as unusual for Parker, with Hammersley emphasizing it was an isolated incident and asserting he harbored no plans to contact the victim again.
Deputy Circuit Judge Timothy Clayson reprimanded Parker, stating, "You started with abuse before turning to violence.
She described you slapping her, pushing her, and trying to force her out, causing her to fall.
Numerous punches to her face were reported.
This was driven by excessive alcohol.
It was a sustained attack, and very serious." Given the gravity of the crimes, Parker was sentenced to 20 months in custody and was subject to a six-year restraining order.
