KELSO MAN ADMITS VANDALISM AND THREATENING BEHAVIOUR, COURT HEARS
In December 2022, investigations were initiated into a man from Borders who had previously pleaded guilty to charges involving threatening or abusive behavior and vandalism. The 29-year-old, Ryan Moriarty, admitted to shouting, swearing, and threatening to damage property at Douglas Crescent in Kelso on November 26 of that year.
Additionally, he acknowledged damaging a vehicle’s windscreen and bonnet.
His sentencing was postponed until January 30 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court so that a Criminal Justice Social Work Report could be prepared.
Moriarty was released on bail under strict conditions, which included prohibitions on contacting a woman and entering Douglas Crescent.
Further legal proceedings took place on June 28, 2024, when Moriarty faced charges under Section 39 for stalking and harassment.
After his relationship ended in November 2023, he was noted to have become increasingly vindictive and engaged in persistent harassment after learning she had moved on with someone new.
On September 19, 2024, Moriarty admitted guilt in court for these crimes and received a three-year Non-Harassment Order, effective from that date until September 2027, alongside a Community Payback Order.
His campaigns of harassment involved continuous digital abuse, including hacking into her personal email accounts to access private images and videos.
He maliciously edited the material to falsely depict her as a drug user and an unfit mother, then shared these with social services, her children’s schools, her workplace, clients, family members, and Eildon Housing.
Moriarty also falsely reported that her car was involved in drug transport and used her email and Facebook accounts to contact numerous individuals, aiming to tarnish her reputation and cause personal and professional harm.
