BARNSLEY MAN JAILED FOR TERROR AND CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A man involved in an online far-right extremist group has been sentenced to imprisonment for terrorism and child abuse images offences.Ryan Jackson, aged 31, was found guilty after sharing terrorist content through the messaging platform Telegram within a group called Oaken Hearth.
When authorities searched his electronic devices, they found over 900 indecent images of children.
Jackson appeared at Leeds Crown Court and received a sentence of two years and six months in prison.
Additionally, he must spend one year on licence and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
The arrest and sentencing stem from a counter-terrorism investigation that uncovered Jackson's collection and sharing of terrorist publications and instructional material, as well as racist propaganda advocating violence.
Jackson admitted five counts of collecting or recording information useful for terrorism and one count of disseminating terrorist material.
Further charges included three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing prohibited images, and owning extreme pornographic content.
Other members of the same online group have been convicted, cumulatively sentenced to over 40 years imprisonment for terror and firearms offences.
Police officials emphasized the seriousness of online extremist activities and their real-world consequences, with Det Chief Supt James Dunkerley highlighting how the case demonstrates the risks of engaging in such behaviour online.
