BARNSLEY MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES AFTER VICTIM COMES FORWARD DECADES LATER
A Barnsley man has been put behind bars for non-recent child sexual offences after a brave woman came forward years after the offences took place.
Sean Gamble, 57, of Dawcroft Avenue, built trust with the victim between 1989 and 1992.
He offered her cigarettes, telling her that their secret was to be kept, before sexually abusing and raping her.
The victim later came forward, hoping to prevent such crimes from happening again.
At Sheffield Crown Court, Gamble pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape of a girl under 16 and six counts of indecent assault of a girl under 14 but was found guilty of all offences on May 15.
He was sentenced to 11 years in jail on October 7.
South Yorkshire Police emphasized that victims can still report such crimes without forensic evidence or witnesses and that it’s never too late to seek help.
The article includes a statement from T/Detective Sergeant Laura Clarke praising the victim's bravery and highlighting the importance of justice.
