RYAN GREIG FROM MANSFIELD WOODHOUSE BREACHES COURT ORDER BY APPLYING FOR POUNDLAND JOB IN MANSFIELD

In May 2022, a serious legal breach occurred involving Ryan Greig, a resident of Mansfield Woodhouse, who violated a court-imposed restriction by attempting to secure employment at Poundland in Mansfield. This incident drew significant attention from the judicial authorities and highlighted the ongoing challenges of monitoring individuals under sexual harm prevention orders.

Ryan Greig had previously been subjected to a sexual harm prevention order issued in June 2020. This order was a direct consequence of his admission to engaging in sexual activities with a girl under the age of 16. The court's decision also included a sentence of 12 months in prison, which was suspended for two years, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the need for supervision.

During the proceedings at Nottingham Crown Court, prosecutor Jon Fountain detailed Greig’s relationship with the underage girl, describing it as 'consensual.' He emphasized that Greig had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, indicating a level of remorse or acknowledgment of his actions. Despite the court's restrictions, Greig attended a health and safety induction day at Poundland, a popular retail chain in Mansfield, but he did not proceed to work there or complete any employment.

Greig, aged 21 and residing on New Mill Lane in Mansfield Woodhouse, admitted to breaching the court order on February 8. His breach was a clear violation of the conditions set to prevent him from having unsupervised contact with children, which is a standard measure in cases involving sexual offenses against minors.

Judge Steven Coupland addressed the court, noting that there was no sexual motivation behind Greig’s actions, suggesting that his primary intent was to return to work rather than any malicious intent. The judge expressed disappointment, stating, “There was no sexual motivation. It was more about him wanting to get back to work.” He further remarked to Greig, “You were all teed-up, ready to work. Sadly working in a shop isn’t open to you,” underscoring the restrictions placed upon him due to his criminal record.

In sentencing, Greig was handed a three-year community order, which includes the requirement to participate in 43 rehabilitation activity sessions aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses. Additionally, he was fined £50 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £95, reflecting the court’s stance on enforcing penalties for breaches of court orders and ensuring compliance with legal restrictions.
