MAN KEPT WATCH WHILE HIS FRIEND RAPED A TEENAGE GIRL IN ALLEYWAY
A teenage girl was raped in an alleyway in the city centre by a man while his accomplice kept watch.During a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, it was revealed that Ryan Dunning acted as a lookout while 37-year-old Kevin Lloyd removed her clothing and committed rape while she was too intoxicated to resist.
Judge Louise Brandon described the incident, which occurred at 1:40 am on March 21 of the previous year, as “every woman’s worst nightmare.” The two men were characterised as “manipulative and predatory,” with the judge noting that Dunning “has an unhealthy interest in young women” and poses a risk to both adults and minors.
Both defendants are convicted paedophiles, and at the time of the assault, they were on license and sharing accommodation at a hostel on Boundary Street, near the city centre.
Judge Brandon emphasised that the defendants were aware the victim was intoxicated, and that the impact on her and her family has been profound.
The girl’s ordeal was only uncovered thanks to the alertness of security guard John Burke and a passer-by, Abdullah Bawarth.
Mr Bawarth observed the men approaching the victim, initially suspecting theft.
Lloyd then accompanied her into an alley off Parker Street, which runs from Church Street up to Clayton Square, with Dunning remaining at the entrance as a lookout.
Both men, who had been monitoring CCTV footage, recognized the situation and intervened.
Lloyd claimed the girl was his girlfriend, and Dunning assisted her out of the alley.
She collapsed on nearby steps, and police, summoned by the security guard, arrived.
Lloyd was detained, while Dunning walked away.
Prosecutor Simon Christie outlined that the victim, who had been at a rave and various bars, was heavily intoxicated and struggled to walk.
Her memory of events was limited; she recalled meeting the defendants and then waking up in hospital, where her mother informed her of the assault something she initially disbelieved.
Dunning admitted to sending a text to his friend when a man told him it was rape but denied acting as a lookout.
Lloyd, aged 38 from Boundary Street, Liverpool, was sentenced to ten years in prison with an additional eight-year extended license after pleading guilty to rape.
Dunning received an identical sentence.
Both offenders were also issued lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPO).
The judge expressed appreciation for security guard Burke and passer-by Bawarth’s efforts, awarding each of them £100 from public funds as recognition of their civic-mindedness.
