Oxford dad jailed for injuring his baby with repeated attacks

OXFORD DAD JAILED FOR INJURING HIS BABY WITH REPEATED ATTACKS

This is the image of Ryan Briston, a father who inflicted multiple injuries on his newborn son during moments of rage characterized by the ‘red mist’.

The 27-year-old admitted to treating the baby roughly, citing stress and working night shifts at a nearby hotel as possible reasons for his behavior.

When the infant was brought to John Radcliffe Hospital in August 2020, he was found unresponsive and displaying a bluish color.

Medical examinations revealed five fractures and a sixth that was suspected, with injuries occurring at different times.

Doctors indicated these injuries were consistent with shaking or swinging of the child.

Judge Ian Pringle QC described Briston as an inadequate parent who lost control during episodes of anger, clarifying that there was no evidence of premeditated harm.

Initially denying involvement, Briston’s innocence was also questioned concerning his partner, who was not responsible for the injuries.

Both the baby and her older sister were removed from her care, and it took nine months before they could be returned.

During a court hearing last week, she described the emotional pain of only seeing her children once a week and being unable to say goodbye due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Briston, who currently resides in Milton Common, Thame, but was living in Stanford-in-the-Vale during the offenses, pleaded guilty to child neglect and was sentenced to 28 months in prison.
