RYAN ANDERSON FROM CARLISLE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Carlisle, Ryan David Anderson, a police officer, has been sentenced after authorities uncovered a collection of highly disturbing child sexual abuse images on his personal device. The investigation revealed that Anderson possessed a total of 724 illicit images, with 149 classified as the most severe category, according to the evidence presented at Carlisle Crown Court.
Prosecutor Alison Mather detailed that many of these images depicted very young children, including infants, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.
The severity of the case was underscored by the fact that Anderson’s collection included images of small children, some possibly babies, which added to the gravity of his offenses.
Ryan Anderson, aged 39 and residing on Edgehill Road in Carlisle, pleaded guilty to seven separate charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images.
The court heard that Anderson was employed as a police constable for Police Scotland in the Borders region at the time of the investigation.
On May 11, authorities from Cumbria Police executed a search at his residence and seized his phone, which was later examined for illicit material.
During the investigation, Anderson cooperated with officers by providing passwords for several of his devices.
However, only his iPhone contained the illegal images.
The charges included three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, two counts of possessing extreme pornographic images, one count of distributing an indecent category A image, and one count of publishing an obscene article discussing child sex abuse through online chat with another individual.
Despite the serious nature of the offenses, Recorder Julian Shaw acknowledged the disturbing content but decided against imposing a custodial sentence.
The judge noted that Anderson had taken steps to address his behavior and was in need of professional help.
The court described his fall from a respected position of authority as “spectacular,” emphasizing that his own actions had led to his downfall.
As part of his sentence, Anderson was given a two-year prison term, suspended for two years.
He is also required to complete a 30-day rehabilitation program, perform 160 hours of unpaid community work, and adhere to a three-month electronically monitored night-time curfew.
Additionally, he must comply with a strict sexual harm prevention order and register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the ongoing concern for public safety and the seriousness of his offenses.
