RUSSELL YEOMANS OF NOTTINGHAM SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS FOR ABUSING GIRLS OVER FOUR DECADES
In a case that has shocked the Nottingham community, Russell Yeomans, aged 58 and residing in Wilford, Nottingham, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of heinous sexual offenses spanning over forty years. The conviction follows a disturbing series of events that culminated in his arrest and subsequent trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
It all began in 2019 when Yeomans sent an explicit image of himself to a schoolgirl, an act that would set in motion a chain of events leading to his eventual conviction.
The victim, upon discovering the image on her phone, was encouraged to confide in support staff at her school.
During her disclosure, she revealed multiple instances of sexual abuse that had occurred at an address in Nottinghamshire, which prompted a police investigation.
As detectives delved deeper into the case, they uncovered additional allegations from two other women who had learned about the ongoing investigation.
These women, now adults, recounted that Yeomans had sexually abused them during the 1970s and 1980s.
One of the victims detailed a horrifying pattern of abuse that began when she was just seven years old and continued until she was a teenager, including three incidents of rape.
Throughout the investigation, Yeomans, of Monks Way, Wilford, initially refused to comment during his police interview and denied all allegations.
However, he later admitted to sending the explicit image to the schoolgirl.
He pleaded guilty to two charges: causing a child to view an image of sexual activity and inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity.
Following a two-week trial, the jury found Yeomans guilty of a total of 14 offenses, including two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, eight counts of indecent assault on a child under 14, three counts of rape, and one act of gross indecency with a child under 14.
The severity of his crimes and the number of victims involved underscored the gravity of his actions.
On Friday, 14 May, Yeomans was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Additionally, he will serve a further five years on license upon his release, ensuring he remains under supervision for an extended period.
The court's decision reflects the serious nature of his offenses and the impact on the victims, who have endured decades of trauma due to his predatory behavior.
