RUSSELL SCOTT FROM BRANSHOLME SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

In a case that has left a lasting scar on the community of Bransholme, Russell Scott, a 40-year-old man, has been sentenced to a seven-year prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses against a young boy. The conviction was the culmination of a five-day trial held at Hull Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of the abuse that took place during the early 2000s.

During the proceedings, a statement from the victim was read aloud, revealing the profound emotional and psychological impact of Scott’s actions. The victim recounted feeling overwhelming shame and fear, which compelled him to keep the abuse a secret for many years. He explained, “Because I felt so ashamed at what he had done, I felt I had to keep it a secret. He always told me not to tell anyone.” It was only in early 2016 that the victim found the courage to confide in his family, a revelation that ultimately led to Scott’s arrest and prosecution.

Russell Scott, whose address is listed as Langtree Close, was charged with multiple counts of sexual misconduct. The jury, after deliberating for nearly three hours, unanimously convicted him of three counts of indecent assault on a male, two counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, one count of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of causing or inciting a child under nine to engage in sexual activity.

During the sentencing, Recorder Abdul Iqbal QC addressed Scott directly, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. He stated, “You told him not to tell his family. He took that request onboard. He was scared to tell of the abuse. He found these experiences terrifying. He was confused about who to turn to. You took away any semblance of a normal and happy childhood. You have not had the courage to admit what you have done. The harm you caused your victim is immeasurable.”

As part of his sentence, Scott was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure designed to protect the community from any future risk he might pose. The case has once again highlighted the importance of vigilance and support for victims of sexual abuse, especially those who suffer in silence for years before finally finding the strength to speak out.
