The court heard that the girl was a minor, and Munro’s actions led to his being charged with serious offenses. As part of his sentencing, he pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of three years. Additionally, he was sentenced to three years’ probation, during which he was mandated to participate in a community sex offenders’ program, reflecting the court’s attempt at rehabilitation and monitoring.

Further details emerged during the proceedings, revealing that Munro’s relationship with the girl began after they met on a bus in Larkhall. According to the prosecution, the two started communicating via text messages, and after a few days, Munro, who was working as a chef at the time, arranged to meet her in person. The court was told that in August of the previous year, Munro visited the girl’s home while her parents were out. The two sat together in her bedroom, drinking, when her mother unexpectedly returned and discovered Munro with her daughter. The mother immediately told Munro that her daughter was only 14 and asked him to leave the house.

Subsequently, the mother found a video on her daughter’s phone showing Munro naked. She reported this to the police, who later examined the device. However, forensic experts were unable to recover the video from the phone, as it had been deleted. The girl later admitted to police that she had engaged in consensual sexual activities with Munro on several occasions. Despite this, Munro’s legal team argued that he was unaware of her true age until her mother informed him, by which point he had already been involved with her three times. The defense also claimed that Munro had continued to see the girl after learning her age, including two additional encounters, and that she had arrived uninvited at his house on two occasions since he was placed on bail.
