RUSSELL CONTENTO FROM MOLD SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED BABY RAPE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN NORTH WALES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in North Wales, Russell John Contento, a 31-year-old man from Mold, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of filming an attempted sexual assault on a baby girl. The heinous act was carried out by Contento himself, who recorded the incident in an apparent attempt to recreate images he had previously viewed on the internet.

Contento’s criminal activities extended beyond this grave offense. He also admitted to possessing indecent 'pseudo images' of children, which are illicit photographs that mimic child abuse, and was charged with two counts related to these images. The court was shown the downloaded material, which Judge Stephen Clarke described as 'dirty, filthy and terrible.' The judge emphasized the seriousness of such material, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation into how such content is made available online and the impact it has on society.

The charges against Contento encompassed both the video he made of the attempted assault and the downloading of numerous indecent images of children from the internet. Prosecutors revealed that authorities discovered approximately 1,300 images of child pornography on his computer, indicating a significant collection of illegal material.

In addition to his online offenses, Contento was found guilty of stealing children’s underwear from various homes he visited during his work as a plumber. The thefts occurred over the course of a year, from January to December of the previous year, and added to the severity of his criminal record.

During the court proceedings at Chester Crown Court, Contento’s defense lawyer argued that his client was genuinely remorseful for his actions. The lawyer stated that Contento was eager to accept any form of treatment that could help him address his compulsive behavior. It was revealed that Contento was battling a severe addiction to computer pornography, which he claimed had taken over his life and driven him to seek out increasingly disturbing material in his quest for a 'daily fix.' The court’s decision reflects the gravity of his crimes and the need for ongoing intervention to prevent further harm.
